Choose the correct Keywords! This cannot be over-emphasised. Conducting keyword research as the first step makes sense, because every decision you make thereafter is based on the right base words and phrases. It allows you to see which keywords users actually employ to find products and services within your chosen market, instead of making guesses at the keywords you believe
are the most popular. We recommend a free tool such as Google’s Keyword Tool. Use this tool to determine the competition for your keyword, the number of searches and the trend for that particular keyword. This will give you the information you require to optimise your site for the most appropriate keywords which will give you the best possible results. Information is Power.

A very good question to ask is “What are the three most distinctive keywords you’d use to describe this site if you were explaining it to a friend or colleague?”.

Strategies for SEO

1. Include the most popular keywords in your website copy.
2. Use the most popular keywords along with ‘qualifiers’, such as product description, geographic location or specific target market.
3. Look for niche keywords or markets, which rank high in popularity with little competition.

Now your goal is to write website text in such a way that you rank as high as possible on the search engine results. It is important to include the keywords in your text but it is just important to make your copy ‘interesting’ or ‘informative’. Give people a reason to read your text! Text for the sake of text will defeat your long term SEO objectives. Consider writing your text in an article format which has been published in your local newspaper or magazine.   • Include your primary keyword in your title and use a H1 tag
  • Include your primary keyword in your first and last sentence
  • Underline some of your primary keywords, be careful not to overdo it
  • Write a description tag which includes your primary and secondary keywords with the goal of enticing your visitor to choose your article over others.
  • Write your first paragraph as an overall summary, including both primary and secondary keywords. Use your summary as an opportunity to grab attention.
  • Map out the structure of your article using headings and subheadings with keywords.

  • Stating the obvious, include your keyword as the link text within your ‘a href’ in your link.
  • Use directory links or text ads
  • Build contacts and relationships within your industry
  • Write newsworthy press releases on services
